چکیده
The joining of dissimilar hard metals such as high-strength steel and nickel-based alloy is required for shipbuilding offshore applications to enhance the strength, fracture toughness, corrosion resistance exposed parts. However, these alloys has remained a major challenge due limited solubility Fe Ni in each other, which commonly results formation brittle intermetallic compounds. We present here novel investigation on overlapped 625 marine-grade GL E36 plates by friction stir lap welding (FSLW). interface microstructure its influence joint strength are rigorously tested. main bonding mechanism found be mechanical mixing along interface. thermal cycles computed three-dimensional numerical heat transfer model their effects examined. Multiple micro tensile specimens extracted from zone examine through-thickness variation properties. welded characterized further evaluating microhardness distribution, lap-shear surface residual stresses.

A Review on Friction Stir Welding of Steel
–Friction stir welding is a solid state welding technology used for welding low melting point metals, such as Al, Mg and its alloys. Later welding was conducted on dissimilar metals which also produced a better defect free joint. Tool design and welding parameters contributes a major role for producing a better weld. Material flow and friction heat are the factors that the internal factor for t...
متن کاملFriction stir welding and processing
Friction stir welding (FSW) is a relatively new solid-state joining process. This joining technique is energy efficient, environment friendly, and versatile. In particular, it can be used to join high-strength aerospace aluminum alloys and other metallic alloys that are hard to weld by conventional fusion welding. FSW is considered to be the most significant development in metal joining in a de...
متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...

High nitrogen martensitic stainless steel 30Cr15Mo1N plates were successfully welded by friction stir welding (FSW) at a tool rotation speed of 300 rpm with a welding speed of 100 mm/min, using W-Re tool. The sound joint with no significant nitrogen loss was successfully produced. Microstructure, mechanical and corrosion properties of an FSW joint were investigated. The results suggest that the...
